Pitch for Stadium Stampede 3

 

AEWs 2021 Double or Nothing was headlined for the second consecutive year by the stadium stampede match. The match featured The Inner Circle facing off against The Pinnacle and had guest appearances from Urban Myer, Konnan as well as a star making performance from Sammy Guevara. Both this year and last years match’s have been a huge success and proved they belonged in the main event spot. Since this is wrestling the question that constantly comes up is “what’s next?” So much could change from now until next years Double or Nothing and it is unclear whether or not AEW plans on making the stadium Stampede match a yearly tradition, but if they were here’s my pitch for a potential third instalment into the Stadium Stampede series.

 

Who Should be in it?

Both Stadium Stampede matches clearly have Chris Jericho’s fingerprints all over it. However I am not including the Inner Circle in my pitch. I think part of the magic of the stadium stampede is all the different character moments that happen with both teams throughout the stadium. Hangman bar fight with Jake Hager, Shawn Spears in a room full of chairs, Matt Hardy pool of reincarnation all come to mind. If the Inner Circle were to participate in a third Stadium Stampede match, I would be worried that the match would start to feel stale which is exactly the opposite of what has made the Stadium Stampede so interesting. So, who should be in Stadium Stampede III?

The Pinnacle vs Best Friends

If you are not going to include Jericho why not use MJF again! I think its inevitable we get an MJF vs Orange Cassidy feud at some point so why not use both stars and their respective group in a stadium stampede style match. This could also carry on the idea that the loser of the stadium stampede matches the year before having to redeem themselves the next year. You are probably wondering who I am considering to be the team best friends. Considering Rocky Romero and Trent reunited on AEW: Dark Elevation and the NJPW and AEW are going to continue working together more and more in the future I could see him joining Orange Cassidy, Trent, Chuck Taylor, and Kris Statlander. Given the number of weapons and props that are used in these matches I would have no problem with seeing Kris Statlander beating up on Shawn Spears throughout the match with various weapons. While we know Best Friends can really make the most of these cinematic style matches as we saw with the parking lot brawl with Santana & Ortiz imagine what all the other talent could add specifically Orange Cassidy & MJF.

It would be hard to believe that AEW would not want to revisit the stadium stampede seeing as it has provided two of the better matches they have put on in the company’s history. Here’s hoping the third one will continue to make as many memorable moments as the first two have been able to create.
